In Summary

With over 60 years’ experience and a workforce of over 2200, the Clancy Group Plc operates across multiple sectors including civil engineering, energy, renewables and water. Clancy has a turnover in excess of £250m and, as one of the UK’s largest privately owned construction firms, the business has a forward order book of £1.2bn. This spans the utilities, infrastructure, plant hire and traffic management sectors.

The Challenges

Following a management restructure, Clancy Group Plc was looking to expand it’s essential infrastructure across all sectors. The business was seeking to deliver better performance by maximising investment through innovation, driving greater productivity and shaping more resilient networks.

The Board was, therefore, looking to roll out an 18-month strategy plan to shape the future of the company. While maintaining the family feel of the business, they wanted to deliver a robust long-term structure and governance. Integral to this was Clancy’s mission to improve the lives of the company’s employees, clients and their customers, suppliers, and contractors.

As part of the ongoing transformation and in recognition of its commitment to people and culture, the business was seeking to hire its first executive level HR Director, as well as a new IT Director and Supply Chain Director, presenting the successful individuals with an opportunity to drive tangible change in a commercially effective, future-focused and innovative business.

The Situation

Clancy Group Plc reached out to BIE to source talent for all three roles. Specifically, the business was looking for a Human Resources Director with the experience and expertise to operate as a trusted advisor and coach to the CEO and Executive team.

They needed an executive level IT Director who would be able to create and deliver a 3-year IT roadmap that would support and enable the business to transform and evolve.

Supply chain was another area of focus. Clancy was looking to appoint a new Director to oversee the full commercialisation of operations and the upgrade of procurement procedures.

The Solution

BIE partnered with Clancy to source, attract and ultimately secure quality candidates for all three roles. Despite challenges around timeframes and external economic factors, BIE was able to retain engagement with all candidates and worked hard to ensure Clancy was able to hire the key talent they sought. A strong focus on culture fit, along with careful calibration against the key competencies and experience required, resulted in a positive outcome for the client and candidates alike.
